As a single mother working as a full-time employee and a business owner/entrepreneur, it can make live very challenging, to say the least. It’s only natural for me and other women in my position to dwell on the negatives of past by not trying to repeat it or focusing too much on the future. Not focusing on the now causes layers of stress. I must admit, I’ve been guilty of this problem for years. I stress about work, finances, relationships, and it all gives me the inability to just…live.

We have to learn to live in the present moment. In doing so, we release all tension and worry. This is the act of practicing everyday mindfulness. Accepting what is happening in our lives now gives us the freedom to live without the stress of what was and what could/should be. We also begin to trust the process of where our lives are headed; Taking us in the direction to where we need to be. Granted, our environment does a good job of reminding us that where we are is not the final destination of our journey, which is why we tend to push ourselves to do better, to be better, and to strive for a better tomorrow. We don’t realize the level of pressure we give ourselves to live up to the standards of others…or even our own. The anxiety to create a better future and the cautiousness of not repeating the past is a battle that is fought daily.

Practicing everyday mindfulness relieves all the stress, worry, and anxiety. Being aware of the daily activities, think positive thoughts, surround yourself with things you love to keep you motivated, and take one step at a time…in your life, in your job, and with your relationships. We cannot predict the future, so it makes no sense in trying to do so. All we can do about the past is learn from it. What was done has been done. Move on, let go, and let God.

As mothers who lead very busy lives, it’s important for us to have some time¬†to ourselves, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

I know first hand what’s it like to not do so & become extremely overwhelmed as a result. I had to figure out ways to improve my balance as a mother, employee, and business owner. I’ve done so by doing research, reading books, and watching videos on YouTube to seek information. I’ve compiled a list of “must-dos” in order for you to find peace. Don’t just spend quality time & not utilize “the quiet” to your fullest advantage.

Here are 8 ways to spend quiet time!

Breathing Exercise– listening to yourself breath will help you to relax. That’s because you’re totally focused on nothing else but what your body is doing.

Clear your mind– Get rid of all the negative thoughts. Nothing will drive you more insane than over-thinking so much that you begin to worry about stuff that may not even exist.

Focus on the present– When we dwell on the past & focus too much on the future, we lose focus on what’s happening now. Focusing on the present allows you to move about your day with less pressure and become less uptight… a behavior you would otherwise internalize.

Write it Out– Writing out your thoughts is therapeutic. Keeping a diary or journal and writing your daily progress will help you keep track of what you should or should not do. That could help you be to move about your day more productively without being super stressed & fatigued.

Take a Walk– Walking helps to clear your mind as you take in your surroundings…which also helps you focus on the present.

Converse with God-Talking with God is the ultimate form of communication. God will help us solve problems, make solutions, and make better choices. We are all responsible for what happens in our lives, but HIS guidance assures us that he is love and LOVE is the only answer.

Meditate-Meditation takes skill but as long as you can train your mind and body to be still… this exercise can highly benefit you.

Read– Reading is something else you could do to train your mind to stay clear of negative thoughts.
