Over the weekend, torrential rains dumped over 2 feet of water on the area of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, causing massive flooding that is affecting thousands of residents.
Governor John Bel Edwards said that at least eleven people have lost their lives in the disaster, and over 40,000 homes has been affected. National Guard troops, emergency rescue teams and local volunteers have been working to rescue as many as 20,000 people trapped by the rising waters.
The flooding has begun to recede in many places, allowing some homeowners to return and assess the damage.
Gov. John Bel Edwards acknowledged that the state did not know how many people were missing, but he said that nearly 8,100 people had slept in shelters on Monday night and that some 40,000 homes had been “impacted to varying degrees.”
Prayers for everyone affected! It’s like Katrina all over again 🙁
