Among other things, European security agencies have relied heavily on US intelligence in the fight against terrorism. Huawei and other Chinese companies have been under fire from the Trump administration following several accusations including allegations of been used by the Chinese government for espionage.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces would stop communicating with their German colleagues if Berlin teams up with Chinese firm Huawei for its super-fast 5G telecom infrastructure, US General Curtis Scaparrotti warned on Wednesday. A German security official said the situation is more nuanced, noting that the US didn't provide evidence to back up its Huawei warnings.

The US security agency underscored that the US would not deny all intelligence from Germany in case the latter would go in bed with Huawei.

The U.S. has issued a warning to Germany that they would scale back the exchange of intelligence if their European ally allows Chinese companies to help build a high-speed internet network.

The United States government has accused Huawei of being a Trojan horse for the Chinese Communist government that poses a risk in cybersecurity through its 5G technology.

How did the alleged scheme work? The colleges listed include Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and the University of Southern California. He went on: "For every student admitted through fraud , an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected".

"A USA embassy spokesman told NPR in a statement that he would not comment on the contents of the letter", NPR's Joanna Kakissis reports from Munich. "The 5G networks our allies buy won't be the networks that they eventually operate, as the software could be changed on a moment-to-moment basis by the manufacturer".

Last week, Huawei filed a lawsuit against the USA for restricting its agencies from the use of Huawei products, saying a law signed by President Donald Trump in August 2018 that barred it and fellow Chinese company ZTE from use in government work is unconstitutional.

The U.S. clash with Huawei includes a deep disagreement over the arrest in Canada and possible extradition of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, who is also the founder's daughter.

Security concerns have led Australia to completely ban the company's technology and New Zealand has moved to partially restrict it.

The US is going too far.
