The police reportedly have one murder suspect in custody; three other people have been detained but their involvement in the attack remains unclear. Another 20 people are in serious condition at Christchurch Hospital.

The White House and U.S. President Donald Trump renounced the attacks Friday. Four people have been arrested, with three still in custody. The judge said "it was reasonable to assume" more such charges would follow.

New Zealand's security threat level has been changed from Low to High.

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters, speaking on Checkpoint, said the country had been robbed of its "innocence", while Andrew Little, the justice minister, affirmed, "There is no place for hate in New Zealand".

"I hope that those involved will be severely punished", he said in a message to Arden.

The country's police chief described these acts of violence as a "very well-planned event".

In a statement, a spokesperson for Facebook New Zealand, Mia Garlick, said videos that appeared to show the Christchurch shootings were quickly taken down. "We wish we knew your name to write upon your heart".

- Two improvised explosive devices were found on a vehicle after the shootings.

There are now four individuals who have been apprehended, but three are connected to this attack and are now in custody, one of which has publicly stated that they were Australian born.
