Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, had already cancelled all planned engagements in February, and the March shows of his solo tour.

Seungri has denied the allegations, but if he's convicted he could face up to three years in prison.

The 28-year-old singer announced his retirement from the entertainment business on Instagram Monday.

'It would be better for me to retire from the entertainment business at this point, ' Seungri said in a statement posted on his Instagram account.

As per reports, Seungri was arrested after Seoul police raided a nightclub on Sunday in order to gather more evidence against him.

"During the past month and a half, I have received criticism and hate from the public and been in a situation where every investigative agency in this country is investigating me". The Seoul nightclub was owned by Seungri at that time.

Seungri, part of the globally popular Big Bang, said he would retire to fight the charges and to spare his management agency and fellow band members further embarrassment, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. "As I've been branded as a 'national traitor, ' I can not stand the fact that I'm harming others for my own sake".

A former supporter replied to the post saying: "I'm so embarrassed at myself for being your fan for the last 10 years".

Band leader G-Dragon was also investigated for smoking marijuana in 2011, although he was released without indictment.

He then apologized once more.

Unfortunately for him, that all had to be scrapped once he became the prime suspect in the Burning Sun investigation.

It is alleged that Seungri tried to obtain prostitutes for clients through a group chat on the messaging app KakaoTalk in 2015.

Seungri was due to enrol on 25 March but could ask for a deferment while he addresses the allegations.
