Nancy Pelosi officially comes out against impeaching Trump - here’s why she’s wrong

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was undeterred Tuesday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) warning against attempts to impeach President Trump Monday.

"Unless there's something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country", she said.

While I think it obvious that the President has committed numerous impeachable offenses-even outside the Russian Federation investigation-Pelosi is right and for the right reasons.

Tamping down impeachment talk also enables Pelosi to keep the spotlight on the Democratic agenda, she told lawmakers in a private meeting Monday night. "And if you have the Democratic Party looking like they're trying to remove a president when he's in the middle of his re-election and taking that decision out of the hands of the American people, it makes sense", Darling said. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., who filed articles of impeachment against Trump on the first day of the new Congress in January, acknowledged that there is not yet public support for impeachment, but noted that Pelosi "didn't say 'I am against it if the public is clamouring for it"'.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries both said that leadership doesn't plan on blocking any member from bringing impeachment related resolutions to the floor for a vote and that it won't detract from the party's legislative agenda.

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings said impeachment "has to be a bipartisan effort, and right now it's not there".

Green does not have a timetable for when the next impeachment vote would take place.

"We have a very positive proactive agenda", said Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Karen Bass of California. Not impeaching Nixon would have meant condoning a President's use of federal agencies to obstruct an investigation.

In an interview earlier this year , Macy said his daughter's college application process was a "stressful" experience. IMG Academy in Bradenton said late Tuesday that 36-year-old Mark Riddell has been suspended indefinitely.

But Pelosi and other critics of impeachment rarely give the counterarguments enough consideration.

While Pelosi said she wasn't in favour of impeaching Trump, she maintained that he wasn't fit for the presidency. It seems inevitable to me that she'll be represented - and not unfairly - as having flip-flopped under pressure from the "radical left" if impeachment proceedings begin, and having blocked impeachment proceedings if they don't.

"If the [reports] indicate that that's become necessary, then we must fulfil our oath and proceed with impeachment", said Rep Ilhan Omar, a freshman progressive firebrand. Most on the right believe the impeachment process would be impossible as they say President Donald Trump hasn't committed any impeachable offenses. Most Democrats favored impeachment, while most Republicans did not.

Burstein pointed out that Pelosi "has not put the Green New Deal up for a vote, she hasn't even put [Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the committee to review it".

Despite a growing chorus of senior Democrats faulting the president for tearing down USA institutions and even going against the rule of law with his attacks on investigators, Pelosi portrayed US institutions as intact. "Most of the constitutional authorities agree with me on this point", Green responded.

"If they're going to win in 2020 it'll have to be that approach again". The Republican-led Senate refused to convict Clinton.

She is correct when she speaks to the divisiveness that an impeachment hearing would thrust onto an already fractured nation.
