France freezes assets of Jaish chief Masood Azhar

China on Wednesday vetoed a resolution in United Nations Security Council seeking a ban on outlawed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar, according to the Indian media.

India said it was "disappointed" by China's move to once again stall its bid to blacklist Masood Azhar, the leader of a Pakistan-based armed group that claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in Kashmir last month.

Beijing blocked the plea that sought a United Nations ban on Jaish-e-Mohammed and declaration of its chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist - actions that would force Pakistan to stop its support to the Kashmiri terrorist and bring Azhar before the arms of worldwide laws against terrorism.

The comment piece advised New Delhi to resort to quiet diplomacy instead of extensively directing aggressive rhetoric to pressurize Beijing, the Azhar issue could have been better addressed.

"It added France has made a decision to sanction Masood Azhar at the national level by freezing his assets in the application of the Monetary and Financial Code". Has Modi government's diplomatic overtures with China failed?

Canadian government is grounding all Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes
Air Canada, for example, announced it was canceling flights to London following Britain's decision to ban the aircraft. China, a hugely important market for Boeing, on Monday ordered domestic airlines to suspend operations of the plane.

India's diplomats must be going back to their drawing-boards to figure out what went wrong with their foreign policy vis-à-vis China, while the Narendra Modi government's failure to get Masood Azhar declared a global terrorist will keep haunting the BJP in the forthcoming elections.

India blame JeM for an attack on its parliament in New Delhi in December 2001 - a claim JeM denies. Yes, this is why China abandoned the push for a global terrorist tag under the UN's 1267 committee for Masood Azhar for the fourth time in the past 10 years! "Bow to Xi in China", Gandhi said on Twitter.

One of Pakistan's closest regional allies, China has blocked three previous attempts by India to blacklist Azhar and said it needed more proof and time to examine the sanctions against the JeM chief. China opposes India's membership of UN Security Council. "China is ready to communicate and coordinate with all sides including India to properly handle this issue", he said. India has to use data and resources to convince the world that Pakistan is real source of terror and a safe haven for terrorists.

India has always been frustrated by the repeated block exercised by Pakistan's close ally, Beijing, on its decade-long effort to blacklist Masood Azhar. The minister and his party both pointed out that China would not be in UN Security Council if not for Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr Gandhi's great grandfather and India's first Prime Minister. If India can not offer new evidence, China will not change its position.
