Sala: Nantes launch legal bid to force Cardiff to pay £15m

Nantes are demanding their first payment for Emiliano Sala

Nantes have consulted lawyers to explore legal options to ensure Cardiff City pay the transfer fee for Emiliano Sala, a source close to the French club revealed Wednesday.

Before the accident, the Argentine striker had already signed a contract with Cardiff to become the most expensive player in the club's history.

He and pilot David Ibbotson have yet to be found.

The wreckage was discovered on the seabed of the English Channel.

The Ligue 1 club have demanded payment from Cardiff, according to BBC Wales, but the Bluebirds are withholding fees until they are satisfied with the documentation concluding Sala's disappearance.

Cardiff are "surprised" that Nantes have made the demand while recovery attempts are still being carried out.

Bow Wow's mugshot was released after his arrest in Atlanta on Saturday, revealing angry red scratches across his face. The incident reportedly started after Bow Wow and the woman-Leslie Holden were arguing.

BBC Wales has learned the transfer fee is due to be paid in instalments over three years.

Cardiff will honor the deal but have been reluctant to make a payment until they know "all the facts".

French club Bourdeaux will receive around 50 per cent of the fee as Sala played for the club between 2012-15 before joining Nantes.

The Piper Malibu N264DB carrying 28-year-old Sala and 59-year-old Mr Ibbotson disappeared over the English Channel on January 21 after leaving Nantes in France for Cardiff.

After a prolonged search, wreckage from Sala's plane was spotted last weekend and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) have undertaken an investigation into the cause of the crash, as well as examining the logistics involved in raising the aircraft from its position 67m beneath the surface.
