Kristaps Porzingis tells Knicks fans to ‘stay woke’

Three days after he was traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks, All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis suggested in an Instagram post that his ex-team's fans should "stay woke".

Knicks GM Scott Perry said the Knicks were aware of Porzingis' displeasure with the direction of the franchise in recent weeks.

Mavs fans will have to wait patiently to watch Porzingis play with Doncic.

Mills noted that both parties seemed to be on the same page at the beginning of the season after NY elected not to extend Porzingis' rookie contract, before Porzingis began showing signs of a disconnect.

"It's not a concern I have", Cuban said to ESPN.

"I think that was important for me, with everything that was going on", Smith said, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. The trade created significant cap space for NY; the Knicks project to have roughly $70 million in cap room to spend in free agency this summer.

European nations raise pressure on Venezuela's Maduro
Newsnight is the BBC's flagship news and current affairs TV programme - with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews. Last week, the EU's top diplomat sounded a warning about the outlook for Venezuela amid the political standoff in the country.

"I get excited every time I think about it", Porzingis said. But it does seem unusual that the team didn't wait to evaluate all potential offers before making the move.

It could be a franchise-defining summer for the Knicks as they could also have enough cap space to go after a top free agent.

Porzingis said he's well ahead of schedule rehabbing the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but he will not play this season.

Porzingis is still yet to come back from his ACL injury and there is no set return date.

The Latvian will have his introductory news conference in Dallas on Monday but issued a short statement to his former followers in NY on Instagram.
