He has no basis to do that, he's just a political hack who's trying to build a name for himself.

"It's called presidential harassment, and it's unfortunate", Trump claimed.

Republicans ended the committee's investigation in April 2018, announcing there was no evidence that members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian government operatives to influence the election. "And it really does hurt our country".

Schiff said that while special counsel Robert Mueller continues his investigation into the episode, the intelligence committee "must fulfill its responsibility to provide the American people with a comprehensive accounting of what happened, and what the United States must do to protect itself from future interference and malign influence operations".

Democrats have long questioned whether some witnesses lied to lawmakers during those interviews, and they plan to make obstruction of justice another focus of their planned probe. And I think that's fine because that's what they do.

"The special counsel's office, the Justice Department and its elements will now have access to those transcripts for any objective which will facilitate justice", Schiff said, noting they previously lacked usable access to the transcripts for prosecutor purposes. Mueller could potentially use these transcripts to pursue charges of perjury.

Cohen, a longtime ally and fixer for Trump, was scheduled to testify at a closed-door hearing before the panel on Friday.

Schiff also told reporters Wednesday that the House Intelligence Committee will not be "intimidated or threatened" by Trump's comments.

Cohen begins a three-year prison sentence in March after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations and lying to Congress.

They criticized the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassification review of documents already approved for release in the last Congress as "unacceptable", and added that "we hope the Democrats will now join us in further increasing transparency by voting to immediately publish all the unclassified transcripts that we previously sent to the executive branch".

Mueller requested Stone's interview transcript previous year and the panel voted to release it in December, ahead of the January charges.

In addition to moving forward with continuing the Russian Federation probe, the Committee voted to release transcripts for private Committee testimony that took place during the last Congress.

He said the majority declined to issue any subpoenas requested by Republicans because the committee meant to seek voluntary testimony before it resorted to compelling witnesses to testify.
