Blazers get Hood; send Stauskas to Cavs

Rodney Hood’s tenure with Cavaliers now finished after trade to Portland never went as planned

The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Cleveland Cavaliers forward Rodney Hood. He also can not carry a team in any consistent way, or, really, be counted on as a wingman for whoever happens to be the alpha scorer.

Hood, a five-year veteran out of Duke, is averaging 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this season while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 36.3 from long range.

Despite spending only a year with the Cavs (Hood arrived in Cleveland on February 8, 2018 via three-team trade from the Utah Jazz), this did not prevent the 26-year-old from forming a precious bond with the city. He tied his career-high with 24 points in a season-opening win over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Baldwin, the No. 17 pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2016, has mostly played a deep reserve role for Portland.

The Cavs have acquired six second-round draft picks, and one first-rounder, since the start of the season. It is possible they will deal Alec Burks or J.R. Smith before Thursday's trade deadline. Stauskas has played in 44 Blazers games this season, averaging 6.1 points in 15.3 minutes per game. Hood averaged 11.7 points in 26 minutes.

He was a restricted free agent last July, but after receiving little to no interest from other teams, he accepted the Cavaliers' qualifying offer of $3.4 million for this season.

In his third season out of Vanderbilt, Baldwin has been a bit-part player for the Blazers, averaging 5.9 minutes a night in 16 games this year. "I'm playing the game I love".
