Manchester United look to avoid the banana skin of Championship side Reading in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow lunchtime.

He made clear after the victory at Newcastle this week that he would love to stay in the job beyond the summer, when his loan from Norwegian club Molde is set to expire, but said on Friday (Jan 4) that he had not spoken to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward about that.

"I still have pictures in my mind every January, the gaffer [Ferguson] with the stopwatch and he times us - all of those runs", Solskjaer recalled.

Liverpool fans are now unhappy with Dejan Lovren's performance throughout the encounter and they wouldn't mind seeing him leave Anfield this month. He's scored two now in three games, but his work rate, all the work he puts in, that's a big pleasing thing for me - with the whole team, because we should never be outworked by anyone.

But rather than attempt to park the bus tomorrow, Gomes will treat the game like any other as he tries to impart his footballing philosophy on the Reading players.

The 20-year old was involved in the clubs preseason tour this season and has more recently been called up to first team training by Solskjaer.

Manchester United have conceded 32 times in 21 games in the Premier League this season, which translates to the seventh worst defensive record in the English top flight.

"You always have to wonder, they bring Ole Gunnar in because he knows the system", Howard told ESPN FC.

Sounding uncannily like his old insatiable United mentor Sir Alex Ferguson, the former striker reckoned he had already consigned to history the idea of having emulated Busby, who went on to win a fifth consecutive game at the infancy of his epic reign.

"You can't say they are stronger now to in the past". It's a chance to get Lukaku and Sanchez a start.

"I must use the game to give players a chance to show what they have learned over this period against a strong, strong opponent".

Substitute Romelu Lukaku and the sparkling Marcus Rashford did the damage in a 2-0 win at embattled Newcastle, cutting the gap to the Champions League spots down to six points.

Rashford said: "Hard work was the key, we had to persist throughout the game".

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez can only dream of such riches in attack after his team drew a blank for the third time in four matches. Let us know in the comments section below.

"So the lads have heard they need to start brushing up on their general knowledge".
