MSNBC Host Calls Mike Pompeo a"Wannabe Dictator's Butt Boy After He Deflects Questions on Jamal Khashoggi's Killing

Brzezinski later apologized on Twitter. Khashoggi was a foe of the crown prince's.

"Morning Joe" co-anchor Mika Brzezinski had to apologize for a slur she made against Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on her show Wednesday morning.

"Why doesn't Mike Pompeo care right now?"

She said it sounded like Pompeo was carrying water for a "wanna-be dictator", using a cruder term.

"But please allow me to say this face to face: The term is crass and offensive and I apologize to everyone, especially the LGBTQ community, and to my colleagues, for using it".

"She will probably be given a pass despite their bad ratings", Trump said.

The host was quickly met with accusations of homophobia and told her word choice implicated homosexuality as equivalent to Pompeo's support of the crown prince's authoritarianism. "Congratulations to Richard Grenell, our great Ambassador to Germany, for having the courage to take this frightful issue on!" he added.

Trevor Ariza in Trade Rumors Between Suns and Lakers
The New York Times' Marc Stein had reported last week about the team's possible intention to trade the 2009 NBA Champion. Now, the Lakers are rumored to be targeting a familiar face on the trade market: Phoenix Suns forward Trevor Ariza .

Richard Grenell, the USA ambassador to Germany, who is openly gay, noticed an omission in her apology.

MSNBC apparently tried and failed to censor the poorly thought-out quip by briefly silencing Brzezinski's words. "Sexualizing gay people this way is created to control them & minimize our worth", Grenell said, while also adding that he didn't think much of Brzezinski's walk-back.

She also questioned whether Pompeo is a true, red, white and blue-blooded American. The direct evidence, this is what I've said before, the direct evidence isn't yet available. "And I'm dead serious".

Critics were quick to condemn Brzezinski because she had apparently used a homophobic slur.

Even Donald Trump Jr. swooped in - not to champion gay rights, but to make a comparison to comedian Kevin Hart, who was forced out as Oscars host after some old homophobic tweets resurfaced.

He added: "People do want to destroy her career over this". Last year, the president attacked her on Twitter, calling her "low I.Q. Crazy Mika" and claiming that she had recently had plastic surgery.
