A spokesperson for West Yorkshire police said the 16-year-old boy had been interviewed and reported for summons for an offence of assault.

The organiser of the protest, Mirban Aslam, 41, has reportedly said that "system" had failed the Syrian refugee and his family.

'I have now been charged with common assault, not racially-aggravated as has been reported'.

Dr Lisa Doyle, Director of Advocacy at the Refugee Council, said: "We are utterly shocked and appalled by the attack on a 15-year-old boy who came to the United Kingdom in search of safety".

The victim's 14-year-old sister has also been the subject of bullying - another video surfaced on social media on Thursday of her allegedly being tormented by a fellow pupil.

A 15-year-old named Jamal has been identified as the Syrian refugee who was seen being bullied by 16-year-old Bailey McLaren in a shocking video that went viral across the globe on Tuesday, November 27.

"The victim Jamal is a refugee in the United Kingdom who has been subject to months of bullying along with his little sister", the campaign read, adding that "his little sister has broken the lenses in her glasses and attempted to cut her own wrists in school toilets" over racist harassment.

A lawyer for the family, Tasnime Akunjee, confirmed she is the sister of the boy who was assaulted at the same place last month.

"I don't feel safe at school". We can't put a number on how many people are likely to be there but the calls I have been getting I have not been able to manage, I have received well over 100 calls and messages.

"I was just crying and I didn't do nothing because I respect the school rules".

In a statement given to The Sun, he said: "I fully accept responsibility for my actions which I regret but wish to make it clear I was not responsible for breaking his arm, nor had I been bullying him over a period of time as has been reported".

As the video spread online, Mohammed Tahir set up a video to raise money for the boy and his family.

His father said he did not want to give interviews to waiting media but, as they left, the teenager just said "thanks for everything" before getting into a waiting auto.

According to British media reports, the incident occurred earlier in October. "Kids don't tell us because they think we will screw it up", she said, when in fact, research shows that telling a trusted adult nearly always make the situation better.

"The distressing video of a young Syrian refugee from a school in Huddersfield being physically assaulted shows how far Islamophobia has manifested in society", it said.

Barry Sheerman, the local MP, said he had been supporting the boy and his family. "We were so concerned about these children that we contacted the school, council and the local police".
