Former US President George HW Bush passed away at the age of 94, a family spokesperson announced on late Friday, November 30.

George Herbert Walker Bush took the oath of office as the United States' 41st president on January 20, 1989, and was the oldest living former commander in chief. In recent years, Bush used a motorized scooter or wheelchair for mobility.

In the wake of former President George H.W. Bush's death, many people reached out to express their condolences.

George W Bush would go on to be elected president in 2000 after Mr Clinton and served two terms.

In 2011, Bush was honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. "He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara". Being the youngest pilot in the navy when he began flying, he flew 58 combat missions during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery in action.

In his rise to the presidency, Bush held a variety of key positions over the years, often deemed by Republican presidents as the most qualified man in USA public life.

He had joined politics in 1964 after starting a Texan oil business and becoming a millionaire by the age of 40.

Before getting the keys to the White House, he served eight years as the vice president of Republican icon Ronald Reagan.

It continues: "With sound judgement, common sense, and unflappable leadership, President Bush guided our Nation, and the world, to a peaceful and victorious conclusion of the Cold War".

Mr Bush was the president who led the U.S. at the end of the Cold War. Around 425,000 USA troops and 118,000 coalition forces were mobilized for weeks of aerial strikes and a 100-hour ground battle.
