Congo's deadly Ebola outbreak is now the second largest in history, the World Health Organisation said.

The U.S. experts have been sidelined for weeks, ordered away from the region due to State Department security concerns.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has documented almost 30 Ebola outbreaks since its discovery in the DRC in 1976.

The WHO's emergencies chief, Dr. Peter Salama, called it a "sad toll" as the Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry announced Thursday that the number of cases has reached 426.

The world's worst outbreak, which lasted from 2014 to 2016, killed more than 11,000 people in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

A deadly rebel attack in September forced health workers to halt vaccinations and the tracing of people who have been in contact with suspected Ebola patients.

In October, WHO convened a meeting of worldwide organisations, United Nations partners, countries at risk of Ebola, drug manufacturers and others to agree on a framework to continue trials in the next Ebola outbreak, whenever and wherever it occurs.

Fury philosophical after Wilder draw
According to CompuBox punch statistics, Wilder landed 71 of 430 shots (17 percent), and Fury landed 84 of 327 (26 percent). Even though Wilder made a throat-slashing gesture and mouthed "It's over", Fury beat the count and went back to work.

This clinical trial is the first-ever multi-drug trial for an Ebola treatment.

They are also awash with violence and insecurity, particularly in the mineral-rich borderlands where militia activity has surged over the past year, all of which complicates the response to the outbreak. Many venture out on critical virus containment missions only accompanied by United Nations peacekeepers.

Despite the challenges, Ebola health workers have made breakthroughs that have given new hope in the fight against one of the world's most notorious diseases.

Testing of four experimental Ebola drugs have begun.

This is the 10th outbreak since 1976 in Congo, according to the health ministry, where the disease is endemic and the second this year.

'This tragic milestone clearly demonstrates the complexity and severity of the outbreak, ' Michelle Gayer, Senior Director of Emergency Health at the International Rescue Committee said in a statement.

Violence is common in the central African country and has made it hard to stop the Ebola outbreak - earlier in the same week eight United Nations peacekeepers and 12 local soldiers died in an ambush. "If want to see the end of this, we do need all critical actors on the ground".
