Century Link service disruptions continue but ‘911 calls are completing,’ company says

CenturyLink says customers are experiencing disruptions in phone and internet service in several states, including Minnesota.

Some areas, like those in Pacific County, reported receiving 911 calls at around 4 a.m. Others areas, like King County and Thurston County, reported 911 service being restored at about 9 a.m. PST, KOMO News reports.

"Its breadth and duration are particularly troubling", he said.

Fowler said two-thirds of the department's 911 calls come in on cell phones.

Emergency 911 services in some USA states have gone down yesterday and today due to a massive outage reported at several CenturyLink data centers.

The outages apparently began Thursday morning.

The Federal Communication Commission announced Friday afternoon it had launched an investigation into the outages.

As of 3:30 Friday morning, CenturyLink tweeted that it was still working to restore service.

Many CenturyLink customers across the US were without internet Thursday amid a lengthy outage that stretched from NY to California. KOMO reports that some CenturyLink customers reported receiving busy signals when dialing 911.

That statement was followed up with a Facebook post around 8:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Reaction: CenturyLink said the cause of the dropped calls isn't clear yet, The Washington Post reports. Dispatchers in Pittsfield said they were unaware of anyone who had been been unable to call for emergency services during that time.

The statement provided no other details, including the cause of the problem and how many customers were affected.

As 911 appeared to be restored in some areas, emergency managers continued to advise residents of local ten-digit numbers that could take emergency calls. Earlier today, on Twitter, a CenturyLink spokesperson said that the company discovered "some additional technical problems as our service restoration efforts were underway".
