A farm on California's Central Coast linked to the massive E. coli outbreak involving romaine lettuce has announced a recall of cauliflower and other types of lettuce as a precaution, CBS SF Bay Area reports.

The growing list of recalls is impacting some local restaurants.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that sediment from a reservoir near where the produce was grown tested positive for E. coli O157: H7. The notice states that "filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come into contact with the produce after it was harvested". Farming, Inc. about potential E. coli contamination.

In cases of severe illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. Some people can develop a risky form of kidney failure. HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly.

So far, no illnesses connected to those lettuces and cauliflower have been reported. The statement urges consumers to return recalled products to where they purchased it or discard of the produce immediately. Adam Bros. Farming, Inc.is in Santa Barbara County.

Check with your grocer if you bought any red or green leaf lettuce or cauliflower from stores in those states.

"We might have to substitute say a romaine lettuce with a green leaf lettuce or a spring mix that has romaine lettuce in it for one that doesn't have romaine lettuce in it", McLain explained.
