Reports claim that Special Counsel Mueller has begun writing his final report.

"He worships him", a longtime friend said of Whitaker and Trump.

Democrats warned against interference in the probe. "I just know what I've read and that he was critical in the past of the special counsel's investigations, which obviously raises concerns", King said.

In the letter, the group of state attorneys general note that Rosenstein appears to have adequately overseen the Russian Federation probe and "should continue to do so, as Mr. Mueller's work must proceed free from interference or supervision that would appear to many Americans to be biased".

That's raising questions about the fate of Mueller's investigation.

Sessions endured most of the name-calling in silence, though he did issue two public statements defending the department, including one in which he said he would serve "with integrity and honor" for as long as he was in the job. "Special Counsel Mueller must be allowed to complete his work without interference-regardless of who is AG".

Mitt Romney, the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nominee who won the Utah race on Tuesday to become a USA senator, also said Mueller's probe should not be affected by Sessions' dismissal.

Mueller declined to comment, according to his spokesman, Peter Carr.

The Justice Department did not directly answer whether Whitaker would assume control of Mueller's investigation, with spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores saying he would be "in charge of all matters under the purview of the Department of Justice". He added that it had "been a privilege" to work under Sessions.

Amazon considers New York, Virginia amid reports of HQ split
The Raleigh-Durham area was one of 20 in the USA and Canada in the final running to lure the Amazon site, dubbed HQ2. In Denver, 16 percent said they were somewhat or strongly opposed to having Amazon to set up shop there.

"It should end, because it is very bad for the country", Trump told reporters. Mueller's team also has been pressing for an interview with Trump.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is denying that President Trump has instructed Whitaker to limit the investigation into possible Russian collusion into the 2016 presidential election. He'd attempted a run for Senate in 2014, but lost to Republican Joni Ernst.

Matt Whitaker has been named acting US attorney general following the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. "This is a break-the-glass moment", he said. Chuck Grassley, now chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

His name was among several floated to become the nation's top law enforcement officer at a time Democrats are already calling a constitutional crisis. The investigation is looking into USA allegations of Russian meddling in the election two years ago and any possible coordination between Russian and the Trump campaign, which the president denies.

LOYALIST: Former Sessions chief of staff Matt Whitaker has taken over oversight of the Russian Federation probe. But the former federal prosecutor went from being one of Trump's closest campaign advisers to an outcast. They held signs saying "Truth Must Triumph" and "Repeal, Replace Trump".

The special counsel has also been investigating whether Mr Comey's firing amounted to obstruction of justice.

Those include an opinion piece on CNN.com in which he said Mueller would be going too far, and straying beyond his mandate, if he were to investigate Trump's family finances. In many instances, that office does not require a Justice Department official to recuse, but suggests a course of action. A permanent replacement will be named at a later point, a second tweet from the president said.

Trump saw the move as a betrayal and frequently and publicly criticised Sessions for making the decision to recuse himself. Another person said that remained true ever after Whitaker took his place.
