Google Rolls Out Night Sight Tech to Improve Quality of Low-Light Photos

The technology is created to improve the quality of low-light photos, though with one significant caveat: it can not handle moving objects. Since the algorithms capture multiple pictures in burst mode, when something in the frame is moving, the Night Sight mode produces a motion blur effect on the picture rather than improve quality.

"Because life's best moments aren't always perfectly lit, we developed Night Sight, a new feature for the Pixel camera that helps you capture vibrant and detailed low-light photos without a flash or tripod", Google's Alexander Schiffhauer explains. Well, after being unofficially available via a modified Camera app for a few weeks it seems that Google is ready to flick the switch to begin rolling Night Sight out with the 3rd-generation Pixels the first to benefit. But as it turns out, the "Night Sight" is not only for night shots.

Thankfully, Google just announced a bunch of Pixel deals that Pixel 3 fans should be aware of.

Finally, in what may have been the most hard challenge, I took a shot using the Pixel 3 and an iPhone XS of a pizza lit nearly exclusively by a single candle.

Israeli defence minister quits over Gaza ceasefire, lands govt in turmoil
The violent escalation between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza was the worst since a 2014 war. Before the raid, Egyptian and United Nations mediators had made progress in reducing tensions.

Once the Pixel 2's Phone app gets upgraded with the new feature, the "Call Screen" option will appear just above the "green phone" icon lights up during an incoming call.

During the launch event, the company also mentioned that the Pixel 3 devices will be offering 40% louder audio than their predecessors. Even without Night Sight, the Pixel family of phones-like the Nexus 5X and 6P before them-already excel in low-light photography. You can read in detail about the working of Night Sight on Google's blog. And it looks like Night Sight will improve matters even further.

Meanwhile, Google Pixel 2 is also an incredibly capable smartphone and still has a sublime rear shooter. In the meantime, check out some Night Sight photos below and share your thoughts in the comments section.
