Cormier exerted his authority from the outset, with most of the opening action confined to the ground after the champ secured a takedown against a disappointing Lewis at the first attempt.

Lewis was comletely outclassed in the first round, but looked risky at the start of the second as he began to throw some bombs.

Jones' comments were put to Cormier in the post-fight press conference and he didn't shy away from lambasting his rival over his failed drug tests, the most recent of which detected traces of the banned anabolic steroid Turainbol in his system.

Two-division world champion Daniel Cormier cemented his position as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters by dominating Derrick Lewis at UFC 230.

Lewis didn't get back up again. Lewis might have fewer paths to victory than Cormier, but those paths do still exist - as Cormier will tell you.

Lewis fought on that same UFC 229 card as McGregor and Nurmagomedov, and was getting thoroughly beaten by Alexander Volkov for nearly the entire three rounds that they fought before he landed a flawless punch and finished the fight with follow-up strikes in the fight's final 10 seconds.

Much like attacking a bucket of chicken, Cormier tagged Lewis everywhere: leg, thigh, and then the neck for the decisive blow.

From there, Cormier climbed around to Lewis' back and quickly sunk in a rear-naked choke, clamping down on the squeeze and forcing "The Black Beast" to tap out.

Referee Herb Dean stopped the action with nine seconds left in the round.

In the co-main event, Brazilian veteran Jacare Souza stunned home favorite Chris Weidman with a third-round TKO win in their middleweight contest.
