Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray said Sayoc was identified through a fingerprint found on one of the devices.

He also stands accused of interstate transport of explosives, illegal mailing of explosives, threatening interstate communications and assaulting current and former federal officers.

Additional packages followed the next day, with each delivery creating more unease.

The van that federal agents are investigating in connection with package bombs that were sent to high-profile critics of Trump is transported on a flatbed tow truck.

Sayoc, a registered-Republican body-building former strip club worker, is believed to own a van emblazoned with stickers declaring himself a Native American supporter of Donald Trump.

News of the arrest comes as the number of packages intercepted across the country grew to 14.

A 14th package was found on Friday at a post office outside San Francisco addressed to another wealthy contributor to the Democratic Party and liberal causes, Tom Steyer.

Authorities say they are looking for more packages and investigating if Sayoc had any help making these improvised devices.

I do not think he'll leave or retire soon. 'Our situation is not irreversible, we are in October'. We are heading (to Barcelona ) with the maximum ambition'.

The common thread among them was obvious: Their critical words for Trump and his frequent, harsher criticism in return.

Sayoc can either agree to be moved to NY voluntarily or he can force federal prosecutors to present enough evidence that he is the person who is wanted on the charges. None of the devices detonated, and no one was injured.

In 2002, he was arrested after Miami police said he threatened to bomb a power company, saying "it would be worse than September 11th". But they were uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never meant to cause physical harm.

Speaking at the White House earlier on Friday, Trump praised law enforcement officials for quickly arresting a suspect. The official said the devices were made from PVC pipe and covered with black tape.

Though Sayoc was arrested in Broward County and is accused of mailing the bombs in South Florida, he will be prosecuted in the Southern District of NY where several of the potentially explosive packages ended up.

Clapper said on CNN Friday morning he was not surprised he was targeted and said the incidents were "serious".

The first crude bomb to be discovered was delivered Monday to the suburban NY compound of George Soros, a liberal billionaire and major contributor to Democratic causes.

In addition, a number of press outlets attributed social media accounts to Sayoc that were rife with posts mocking Democrats, as well as photos of Sayoc wearing a hat bearing President Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan.
