Dozens Feared Dead As Train Plows Through Crowd Of Revelers In India

An angry mob threw stones at police on Sunday near the site of a deadly railway accident in north India, demanding immediate financial compensation for the families of the victims and government jobs for those who lost wage earners.

While the Punjab police has registered an FIR against unidentified people to be behind the train tragedy, many have blamed both Vijay and Sourabh for the mishap. He also said that he alerted crowd many times to not stand on the tracks while watching the event.

Relatives of the victims have turned on the railways for allowing the train to go through when there were scores of people near the tracks. "The people were standing on and near the track", senior local police official Parbhjot Singh told CNN.

The local government has described the incident as tragic and ordered an inquiry into the accident. "Nobody has received anything till now", said Ravinder, one of the protesters who only gave his first name.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh said on Twitter his government would be giving 500,000 rupees, or five lakhs, to the families of each person who died in the accident.

United States lottery jackpot breaks record at 1.6bn dollars
USA lottery winnings are taxable at the federal level, unlike in many other countries, while some states also impose local taxes. Last October, Mega Millions introduced a $3 ticket option, which gives players two chances at the jackpot.

But such compensation often takes months or even longer in reaching the families.

The incident makes it India's worst rail disaster this year.

Data from Parliament in July showed that 49,790 people were killed by trains in India between 2015 and 2017.

Railways has already said that no action will be taken against the driver of the train saying that he had managed to slow down the train to around 68 kmph from the speed of 91kmph at which he was assigned to run. "Nobody had applied for the permission with the Amritsar Municipal Corporation", AMC commissioner Sonali Giri said. No case has been filed against the driver yet, and the Railways continues to maintain that the spectators were trespassing onto the tracks.

Earlier on Sunday morning, protesters clashed with the police at Jodha Fatak - the scene of the tragedy - after the latter came down to remove a blockade that had halted train services.
