Trump has cited their amenable relationship as evidence that the special counsel can not be impartial during the investigation. The president's lawyers have tried to fight against accepting a formal interview, saying Mueller can use the more than 1 million documents the legal team provided investigators to determine if Trump conspired with Russian Federation.

Trump's legal team and Mueller's investigators have been negotiating for months over whether Trump will be formally interviewed in the probe.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for the Special Counsel's office, declined to comment. In other words, they will not allow any questions that go to the issue of obstruction of justice.
