Police raid home of couple who raised $400K for homeless man

Police executed a search warrant Thursday morning to comb through the home of the couple who raised $400,000 for a homeless Philadelphia man.

"I am also a little concerned defense counsel may be given misinformation by his clients", the judge said, adding that some of the information presented so far has been "cloudy".

Johnny Bobbitt, the homeless man who spent his last $20 to buy gas for a woman when she became stranded on a highway in Philadelphia past year, will receive the full balance of the money raised in his name on GoFundMe.

McClure and D'Amico have been embroiled in a legal fight with Johnny Bobbitt Jr. after they started a GoFundMe account for him.

Bobbitt claims he never had access to the money - which they said was to be used to buy a house - and that D'Amico instead spent the donations on a vacation to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Los Angeles, an accusation the couple denied during an appearance last Monday with Megyn Kelly on NBC.

In an August 27 interview with NBC News' Megyn Kelly on "Today", D'Amico and McClure said that after they paid fees to GoFundMe for setting up the account, there was about $350,000 in donations remaining, which they transferred to their private bank account because Bobbitt didn't have one. The pair said they are withholding the rest of the money until he is off drugs.

The Inquirer reported that D'Amico spoke of expenses that he and his girlfriend had incurred caring for Bobbitt, including time that they took off from work. "In McClure's pitch to the public, she pledged to use the money to buy Bobbitt a home and his dream auto - a 1999 Ford Ranger".

The camper had been parked on land McClure's family owns, but Bobbitt said he became homeless again after D'Amico told him in June that he had to leave the property.

Tropical Storm Florence Heading Westward Strengthening Forecast
As of Friday afternoon, Florence continued to slowly cross the Atlantic Ocean now moving more westerly compared to northwesterly. The expectation is that a powerful hurricane will approach the mid-East Coast of the US next Wednesday or Thursday.

Investigators raided the home of Mark D'Amico and Katelyn McClure of Bordentown early Thursday, seizing a BMW that the couple is believed to have bought with the donations.

Bobbitt is now in a drug addiction program. Philadelphia attorney Chris Fallon, who is representing Bobbitt, has alleged the couple spent a large portion of the donations on gambling, lavish trips, shopping sprees and a BMW.

Badway indicated in court Wednesday that his clients intend to invoke their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refuse to give testimony about where the money went.

"Shocked. Shocked", Fallon said.

"I say I get rid of my team of lawyers you get rid of yours and Kate and I write you a check", D'Amico wrote in the message, according to the Inquirer.

At one point, the attorney asked that two suspected law enforcement officers sitting in the back of the courtroom identify themselves to the court.

"As of this time, there have been no charges filed", Burlington County Prosecutor Scott A. Coffina said in a statement on Thursday. GoFundMe has reportedly agreed to assist authorities in the investigation, and deposited $20,000 in bridge funding into an account for Bobbitt.
