Florence, packing winds of 140 miles per hour (220 kph), was expected to grow even stronger before making landfall on Thursday, mostly likely in southeastern North Carolina near the SC border, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

In North Carolina, schools had already cancelled classes for the week yesterday as the state braced for what would be only its second brush with a Category 4 hurricane since record-keeping began in the 1800s - the other was 1954's Hazel.

Hurricane Florence, a powerful Category 4 storm, is bearing down on the Southeast coast and "we want the people to get out and get safe", South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster told "Good Morning America" Tuesday.

It's not just North Carolina that is "taking Hurricane Florence seriously", either, in SC and Virginia residents have also declared states of emergency following the updates on the storm.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said on September 10 that evacuations for all coastal zones in the state will begin on September 11, before Hurricane Florence hits.

Maps of the storm's trajectory show it is most likely to make landfall between northern SC and North Carolina's Outer Banks on Thursday, making it the most powerful storm to strike the Carolinas in almost three decades. Freshwater flooding is extremely likely once the storm makes landfall, possibly as far inland as West Virginia.

If it makes landfall as predicted, Florence could become the northern-most Category 4 hurricane to hit the US since records were first kept in 1851.

Ma said that over the years, the company has experimented with and improved on the right balance between systems and individuals. Announcing his succession plan, Jack Ma wrote a letter to Alibaba's customers, employees and shareholders.

Officials have ordered mandatory evacuations in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, affecting more than a million people. While the storm is expected to batter spanning the Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic region, it will likely have little to no impact on MA, forecasters say. A hurricane watch was in effect for Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to Virginia's southern border, and the first hurricane-force winds arriving late Thursday.

Trump warned residents in a series of tweets earlier Monday to heed local guidelines about the storm.

Before that, Hurricane Hugo made landfall just north of Charleston, W. Va., at Category 4 strength in 1989.

Travel dates covered also vary, but most are focusing on the dates between Thursday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 16.

The National Weather Service also reminded residents to continue assembling a survival kit, secure loose objects, prepare to leave areas that may flood and stay indoors during high winds.

Hurricane Florence is carrying winds of up to 140 miles per hour as a Category 4 storm. Tropical storm force winds extend 150 miles from the center.

It could be the worst hurricane to hit the Carolinas in over 60 years.
