Hurricane Florence Claims Two More Lives Including Infant in North Carolina

"The father was transported to (New Hanover Regional Medical Center) with injuries".

In Pender County, the third victim suffered a heart attack and died inside her Hampstead home. Though forecasters later downgraded Florence to a tropical storm, the monster system is barely moving over the Carolinas and could dump drenching rains of up to 3½ feet (1 meter). Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina as a Category 1 storm and flooding from the heavy rain is forcing hundreds of people to call for emergency rescues in the area around New Bern, North Carolina, which sits at the confluence of the Nueces and Trent rivers.

A friend later tweeted that the woman and her family had been rescued. Additionally, three people have died in SC. By late afternoon, Beaufort County Manager Brian Alligood hoped the worst was over.

Picture the entire state of Texas covered with roughly 4 inches of water: that's Florence's rainfall forecast over a week.

To compliment the supplies the government is giving evacuees, World Vision has also prepared hygiene kits that are filled with laundry soaps, toiletries, blankets, mosquito nets and plastic mats for the approximate 4,000 families fleeing the storm.

Florence's top sustained winds remain at 70 miles per hour (110 kph) as it crawls west at just 3 miles per hour (6 kph).

She retreated and was eventually rescued by a boat crew; 140 more awaited assistance. Mackie rode in a boat through a flooded neighborhood, navigating through trees and past a fencepost to reach the Knox house. Residents there have been dealing with flooded streets, downed trees and widespread power outages in the wake of Mangkhut.

Airlines cancelled more than 2,100 flights through Sunday. More are expected, as the storm could bring winds up to 45 miles per hour around the area, according to Durham County emergency management officials.

Numerous roads were closed, and authorities warned of the risk of landslides, tornadoes and flash floods, with dams and bridges in peril as rivers and creeks swelled.

Darnold sharp, but Jets’ rout of Lions a total team effort
That might be a leg-up for Patricia on Monday, considering the Jets and Pats are division rivals. This was a night for optimism for a franchise that far too often has had far too little of it.

"For overall damage it will be hard at the end of the day, I think, to find a rival for this storm", said North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. He urged residents to stay inside and not get in the way of emergency workers.

"All evacuation orders from local officials should be followed because of this risky threat", the Weather Channel said.

"It's an uninvited brute who doesn't want to leave".

Another factor, Berardelli said, is that with rising sea levels, storm surges increase. In Belhaven, the rising Pungo River almost swallowed the first floor of a house.

"The fact is this storm is deadly and we know we are days away from an ending", Cooper said.

Emergency crews were stretched thin. Areas from Wilmington through Fayetteville to Charlotte will experience 500-year to 1,000-year flood events, he said.

As of Friday morning, the state was housing nearly 20,000 people in 157 shelters, Gov. Cooper told Steve Inskeep of NPR's Morning Edition. The National Weather Service measured storm surge in New Bern at 10 feet deep.

Others who chose to stay at home perhaps regretted their decision.

The personnel combined with other agencies to form the Tennessee EMS Ambulance Strike Team and the TEMA-Middle Tennessee Fire Chiefs swift-water rescue team. "Don't go back until you get the all-clear". "You may need to move up to the second story, or to your attic, but WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU".
