Number 10 has repeatedly ruled out staying in the EEA, which would keep Britain in the single market, warning it would mean continued free movement of migrants and was not true to the spirit of the referendum result.

Speaking to BBC Panorama, she said: "I think that the alternative to that will be having no deal".

Many economists say leaving the European Union without a deal would be economically devastating for Britain.

"A more disruptive departure will have a much worse outcome", she said as the International Monetary Fund presented its annual report on Britain'seconomy.

Mr Barnier, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator, was in Madrid to brief Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Foreign Minister Josep Borrell on the progress in the Brexit negotiations.

Writing in the Observer newspaper, Khan said British Prime Minister Theresa May's government looked "unprepared and out of its depth" in negotiations with Brussels on its future relationship with the EU.

Under the European Union plan, goods could be tracked using barcodes on shipping containers under "trusted-trader" schemes administered by registered companies, the Times reported.

"It would be a lot more wise to put her cabinet together, agree on what they want to agree on Brexit and how to get there, and then trigger this process", he added.

Mr Johnson's column in Monday's Daily Telegraph renewed his attack on the Chequers proposals and the government's plans for avoiding new border checks on the Northern Irish border.

Everything from her wardrobe, to her relationship with her family and friends has changed. "I said: 'This is serious". This gesture was just one way that Meghan has tried to keep up with the few remaining friends she has left.

The Prime Minister criticised a plan by Tory Brexiteers to resolve the border issue, claiming it would create a "hard border 20km inside Ireland".

Courting either option would also put Downing Street on a seismic collision course with hardcore Brexiteers who feel that Chequers already leaves the United Kingdom too close to the EU.

Committee chairman Hilary Benn said that with time running out to secure a withdrawal agreement there were "significant problems yet to be resolved", with the Irish border backstop the main sticking point.

Former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said on Monday that newspaper reports of Brussels proposing a technical fix to the issue of the Irish border could allow for a breakthrough on reaching a Brexit deal.

Her comments in a BBC Panorama interview came as Boris Johnson mounted another attack on Mrs May's strategy, claiming that the issue of the Irish border is being used to turn the United Kingdom into a "vassal state" and that talks will end in a "spectacular political auto crash".

In the interview, to be fully aired as part of the BBC " s "Panorama' programme on Monday night in the United Kingdom, the premier also issues an ultimatum to critics who have questioned her strategy on Brexit.

Theresa May's government had failed to ensure that the country didn't face a "bad deal or a "no deal" Brexit".

"I think Parliament will vote for a deal because I think people will see the importance of a deal that maintains a good trading relationship with the European Union but also maintains good cooperation in other areas, but gives us the freedom to take the benefits and opportunities of Brexit", she said in an interview broadcast Monday.
