He concluded the tweet by saying, "I did not know about it!"

Trump Jr went on to blame the Democrats and cable news outlets for blowing the meeting with the Kremlin-connected lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, out of proportion.

It is not the first time the president acknowledged the existence of the meeting using this line of defense, but it is the president's most blunt admission that the goal was to obtain damaging information against his then opponent, Hillary Clinton, in the presidential election.

Trump Jr. has shifted his explanations for his Russian meeting.

Political operatives on both sides of the aisle quickly said, no, they wouldn't have taken a meeting with a foreign operative and would have reported the offer to authorities.

The President's attorneys at first denied Mr Trump's involvement in drafting the response to the Times.

Trump might as well have just confirmed The Post's report that he is anxious about what the meeting portends for his son.

President Trump's attorney said Sunday his legal team is leaning toward not having the president sit down for an interview under oath with special counsel Robert Mueller.

Apple becomes world's first public company worth $1 trillion
The stock has been rising since Tuesday when it reported better than expected results for the three months to June. That would put Apple's stock market value at $973 billion, based on its newly disclosed number of shares.

Trump unleashed particular fury at reports that he was anxious about the Trump Tower meeting attended by Trump Jr. and other senior campaign officials.

Cohen has indicated that he would tell prosecutors that Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting ahead of time.

Eliason noted that Mueller is investigating Russian election activity and that Trump himself is not on the ballot, so the Justice Department rule of thumb about timing and elections may not apply in this case. Jay Sekulow asked on ABC News' "This Week," suggesting that there are no laws prohibiting campaign operatives from meeting and working with foreign agents. Citing thousands of documents supplied by the White House and interviews of Trump aides, they said Mueller already's knows Trump's positions on the issues at hand. The president has been tweeting at a pretty high frequency about the Mueller investigation recently, and in part that's probably because his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort is now on trial. Mueller is probing whether anyone connected with the president's campaign conspired with Russian Federation to tip the election in Trump's favor.

Trump Jr. initially claimed in a statement - which the president dictated himself - that he had "primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children" during the "short introductory meeting".

Trump's latest offensive against stories he does not like about his 18-month presidency came hours after he rallied supporters in the midwestern state of Ohio.

Indeed, that's been the Trump team's story. White House Press Secretary, at the time, Sean Spicer said there was no evidence to believe "there was anything except for discussion about adoption and the Magnitsky Act".

He defended calling the media "The Enemy of the People", and said journalists "purposely cause great division & distrust" and can "cause War!" But also, they didn't give us anything good, and we didn't act on it.

"Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting", Goldstone wrote to Trump early June 2016.
