Apple Buybacks May Total $21 Billion in Q2

Apple Inc. on Thursday became the first US company to surpass $1 trillion in market value, underscoring the iPhone maker's explosive growth and its role in the technology industry's ascent to the forefront of the global economy and markets.

The company's stock was at $205.98, up 2.2 percent near 1555 GMT.

With a market cap of $1 trillion, Apple has a value greater than the gross domestic product of most countries in the world, including Turkey, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.

During that time, Apple evolved from selling Mac personal computers to becoming an architect of the mobile revolution with a cult-like following.

GOP lawmakers introduce articles of impeachment against Rod Rosenstein
The Justice Department essentially says it's trying to comply, but that these Republicans want a lot, and it takes times. Rosenstein, along with FBI Director Christopher Wray , faced dozens of angry Republicans at a House hearing last month.

The stock has been rising since Tuesday when it reported better than expected results for the three months to June. Under CEO Tim Cook, Apple also has embraced the internet, with its thriving services business helping propel the company toward the new milestone.

In the almost more than four decades since Steve Jobs founded the company in a California garage, Apple has become almost synonymous with personal computing and mobile devices.

Apple's stock has risen over 30 per cent in the past year, fuelled by optimism about the iPhone X, launched a decade after the original. Amazon is valued at $870 billion, Google-parent Alphabet has a market valuation of $850 million and Microsoft's market cap is at just under $815 billion. That put Apple on a path to overtake Exxon Mobil in 2011 as the largest US company by market value.

That would put Apple's stock market value at $973 billion, based on its newly disclosed number of shares.
