Trump to 'Firmly' Ask Putin About Russia's US Election Meddling

US President Donald Trump on Friday said he had been "tougher on Russia than anybody", ahead of a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday.

May said the most important thing was that Trump would be going into the meeting with Putin with the 29-strong North Atlantic Treaty Organisation military alliance united behind him.

The U.S. -Russia summit is an opportunity for President Trump to show his true leadership and tell Vladimir Putin that America will not tolerate the Kremlin's political misdeeds, according to Hermitage Capital CEO Bill Browder.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced Friday that the 12 Russian military intelligence officers were charged with hacking into the accounts of the Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton's campaign and other party operatives during the 2016 presidential election.

"If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the summit in Helsinki should not move forward". Ben Sasse also issued a statement that said "all patriotic Americans" should know Putin is not "the President's buddy".

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, who was Democratic National Committee chairwoman at the time of the hacking, issued a statement Friday that said the organization "was the first major target of the Russian attack on our democracy".

The indictment stands as the clearest Justice Department allegation yet of Russian efforts to interfere, through illegal hacking, in the USA presidential election before Americans went to the polls - and the first to implicate the Russian government directly.

"So we have to convince them that NATO, Europe and the United States will be safer and better when Georgia becomes a NATO member".

Reports of person climbing Statue of Liberty; arrests madey
The protester climbed all the way to the very base of the statue, itself, sitting just below Lady Liberty's raised heel. His call forced the evacuation of Liberty Island, sending 3,200 people on boats back to lower Manhattan and New Jersey.

"It's a big F-U from [special prosecutor Robert] Mueller", a White House official told Politico, adding that it "wasn't an accident" that the indictments were announced before the Helsinki summit.

Schumer says Trump should cancel his meeting with Putin until Russian Federation takes steps to prove it won't interfere in future elections.

Others, in wake of the indictments, have urged Trump to simply cancel the meeting.

"I think he should cancel it, but not just because of these indictments", Vinograd said.

"The administration has a pretty good policy towards Russian Federation, just the president doesn't agree with it", said Michael McFaul, a former USA ambassador to Russian Federation under Obama.

"We must speak with one voice in making clear to Vladimir Putin: 'We will not allow you to interfere in our democratic processes or those of our allies, '" Sanders wrote in a tweet on Friday.

"It could open up new negotiations on a lower level that could actually achieve something", Raitasalo said.
