Playing his round with Tiger Woods on this final day of the Open, it had been the American who once looked primed to claim what would have been a spectacular win.

Woods stumbled with a double bogey on No. 11. "I've watched this through the PGA Tour this year day in and day out, seeing him work as hard as anyone else".

The former world number one found himself with a share of the lead on Sunday afternoon with just eight holes to play at Carnoustie.

Up to that point he had been overshadowed by his playing partner, who made the turn in the outright lead only to lose momentum dropping three shots in two holes.

Number of bogeys Francesco Molinari made in his final 37 holes, almost unthinkable given the pitfalls that await during every trip 'round Carnoustie, among the hardest links courses in the world.

"He's always been a great player but, with how he's played this year, there's just maybe a little more belief", said McIlroy of Molinari.

"I'm going to handle him the way I do everyone else", Furyk said Monday before boarding a flight for the Canadian Open. It could be my last one unless I win the Senior Open.

It took an Italian 23 years to challenge again at the Open and this time Molinari prevailed, having managed only three top-10 finishes in his 35 previous majors.

GOP lawmakers introduce articles of impeachment against Rod Rosenstein
The Justice Department essentially says it's trying to comply, but that these Republicans want a lot, and it takes times. Rosenstein, along with FBI Director Christopher Wray , faced dozens of angry Republicans at a House hearing last month.

McIlroy, Rose, Schauffele and Kisner finished in a tie for second place as the world's oldest major championship avoided a fourth straight playoff at Carnoustie to determine the Champion Golfer of the Year. "It didn't feel any different", said Woods.

Molinari paired with one of golf's biggest legends, Tiger Woods, and when Molinari birdied the 18th hole to seal the deal, he hugged his caddie.

For now, though, McIlroy should bottle up what he did on 14 and look to replicate that throughout the end of the course.

"There's going to be a lot of European guys vying for his partnership in the foursomes at the Ryder Cup, that's for sure".

"It felt great to be a part of the mix and build my way into the championship".

Tiger Woods made a whole lot of golf fans happy this weekend, as the 42-year-old duffer's Lazarus act during the final round of the British Open helped NBC deliver the biggest audience for golf's longest-running showcase in almost two decades.

I can not believe there are actually people who think Tiger Woods should not be picked for the Ryder Cup. I have no regrets. I played the way I wanted to play this week.

"It will be interesting to see going forward, but this was his first taste of major championship - of the drama, I guess, for quite a while (of the final round)".
