Feds begin removing Occupy ICE protesters in Portland

Calls to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a Homeland Security agency tasked with enforcing immigration laws, reached a fever pitch this week when well-known Democratic politicians joined the fight to shut down the agency.

"The Democrats are making a strong push to abolish ICE, one of the smartest, toughest and most spirited law enforcement groups of men and women that I have ever seen", Trump tweeted just after 7 a.m. this morning.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY said Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, has "become a deportation force" and wants to get rid of it and start over.

Gillibrand told CNN on Thursday that ICE "has become a deportation force".

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic socialist candidate who achieved a shocking win Tuesday over Rep. Joe Crowley in the New York Democratic primary, made the abolition of ICE a key platform in her campaign.

This week, Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., said he plans to introduce legislation to eliminate the agency.

In the Times story, ICE agents complain that people are calling the police on them as they try to operate-or even when they try to get coffee in the city.

"Well, I hope they keep thinking about it", Trump said.

While some Democrats like Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez have suggested dissolving ICE, others have simply suggested that the duties given to ICE be reviewed and made more inline with the original objective of the agency, post 9/11.

World Cup Group H match report Japan v Poland 28 June 2018
Once Colombia had scored in Samara , Japan knew it had done enough to advance even though it was losing late in its match. The Japanese played out goalless draw at halftime and were looking like they were heading for the exit doors.

President Donald Trump recently reversed course and signed an executive order aimed at keeping undocumented families together following public outcry over the separation of parents and children at the border.

Insight from Jerry Robinette, former special agent in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's homeland security investigations in San Antonio. He added: "get rid of ICE you're going to have a country that you're going to be afraid to walk out of your house. They are great!" he tweeted.

In major cities and tiny towns, thousands of marchers gathered across America, moved by accounts of children separated from their parents at the U.S. -Mexico border, in the latest act of mass resistance against President Donald Trump's immigration policies.

Thousands of protesters marched from Downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn on Saturday in support of migrant families who were separated when they entered the country illegally or seeking asylum.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., "believes that ICE has been on the wrong end of far too many inhumane and unconstitutional practices to be allowed to continue without an immediate and fundamental overhaul", said her spokesman, Drew Hammill.

"The Liberal Left, also known as the Democrats, want to get rid of ICE, who do a fantastic job, and want Open Borders".

Their focus, Alex said, should be on "stopping the long-standing culture of corruption" in US immigration policy and "the appalling practices" of the Trump administration, not on a move that by itself "amounts to rebranding".

This aide said the party should focus on "the cruelty of the actions around family separations and some of the ridiculous tactics used by ICE to bully state and local governments" to comply with federal immigration detainers.
