The Gunners playmaker announced his retirement from global football on Sunday, citing discrimination from the DFB as part of the reasoning for his decision.

The new Arsenal boss sent a message to Ozil in the wake of his global retirement.

Ozil released a three-page statement on social media hitting out at the perceived "racism and disrespect" of his Turkish heritage he has received in Germany from the media, ex-players, and the German FA following the controversial photograph taken with Turkish president Recep Erdogan in May.

Asked about Ozil's decision to retire from Germany duties, Emery responded: 'He thinks what is best for him, he explained his decision and here we need to help him. Emery said: 'It is a personal decision from Mesut and I respect it.

Germany´s football federation swiftly denied the allegation of racism, while Erdogan called Ozil to praise his decision - which follows a resurgence of the German far right.
