Serena shows plenty of fight to subdue Barty

The Australian cruised past Natalia Vikhlyantseva (6-3, 6-1) into the second round, only to find that her next opponent is Williams.

The 36-year-old has banked over $84 million in career earnings, has an extraordinary overall winning ratio of 85.6%, and is a 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Serena then uploaded a snap of her in the suit at the French Open to her Instagram, captioning the photo, 'Catsuit anyone? "It's because I want to get home to see Olympia, because I have been here all day".

The 31-year-old Russian, seeded 28th after missing this tournament the last two years, needed 59 minutes to win on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The momentum was with Williams going into the third set and she broke for 2-1 in the third to move ahead in the match for the first time.

"In the first set she gave me a hell of a lot of cheapies, a lot of errors", said theAustralian who had secured her highest ever seeding at a major in Paris.

She managed to maintain her intensity to claim the second set 6-3 and sealed it with an ace after just over an hour of action.

Instead, Steve Kerr and company will likely adjust the game plan to prevent the Cavs from being this close from here on out. He missed the second, but the Cavs still had a shot to win the game since they got the ball back on the rebound.

Next up for Williams is Australia's 17th seed Ashleigh Barty. It lead to her having a laugh as the chair umpire begged for the crown to maintain decorum.

Williams is short of match sharpness and the footwork is not quite there yet.

Williams is just getting back on to the court after giving birth to her daughter last September.

Her comeback has been stop-start so far, and she dedicated her win on Tuesday to "all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy".

The American was also asked whether her experience of being at a Grand Slam had changed since becoming a mother. The former world number one reminded the crowd of her sheer willpower and competitive spirit, roaring when hitting clean winners and fist pumping every point.

"It's disappointing because I was well and truly in the match. I want to play my game, regardless of who is on the other side".

"If I wasn't playing tennis, I'd be pregnant right now - sorry, I'm one of those women", she said.
