At least 25 mortar shells have been fired into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, in the largest single barrage from the Palestinian territory since the 2014 war between Hamas and Israel.

Targets included drone sheds, a rocket-making workshop and "military compounds", a military statement said.

A military statement said they were sites belonging to the Hamas, the Islamist Palestinian organization that runs Gaza, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a local Islamist group that Israel blamed for Tuesday's mortar barrage. It also said around 100 rockets and mortars fired from Gaza either exploded in Israel or were intercepted by air defences. Three Israeli soldiers were wounded in the exchange of fire.

Israel says it holds Gaza's Hamas rulers responsible for the bloodshed.

Explosions continued until late Tuesday, with the Israeli army reporting sirens being triggered in a number of locations near the border.

Islamic Jihad announced an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement with Israel.

Three members of Islamic Jihad were killed in an Israeli strike on Sunday, with the group vowing revenge.

"We are sending a clear message to Israel and the rest of the world that the siege must be lifted", one of the organisers, Issam Hamad, said before the boats launched.

The latest cross-border violence is some of the heaviest since a 50-day war between Israel and militants in Gaza in 2014.

More than two million Palestinians are packed into the Gaza Strip.

The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln Leaving After Season 9
However, it has now been reported that Lincoln will leave the show after the next season, which premieres later this year. But I do think Lincoln has been on the show for far too long, and I wouldn't mind seeing him try his hand at other things.

Israeli fire has killed more than 110 Palestinians, majority during the Hamas-led protests, which climaxed on May 14.

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who called the meeting, noted that Hamas claimed responsibility for this week's "outrageous terrorist attack" against Israel.

Hamas' decision to stop the attacks suggests it means to avoid another war, one that might well end its control of Gaza.

The high Palestinian death toll in the border protests has drawn strong global criticism of Israel, with rights groups saying Israel's use of live fire is illegal because in many cases it has struck unarmed protesters who did not pose an imminent threat to Israeli soldiers.

"If it continues (to attack), I don't know what its fate will be", Katz said on Israel Radio.

But the protests appear to be fueled primarily by a desire to ease the blockade.

More than 110 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire.

Amid worldwide condemnation for its use of deadly power on the mass demonstrations that started on March 30, Israel mentioned most of the useless have been militants and that the military was repelling assaults on the border fence.

The Gaza Strip has been under Israeli blockade for more than a decade, with Israel saying it is necessary to prevent Hamas from obtaining means to attack.
