Iran enrichment plan not in breach of nuclear deal, says European Union

Salehi said the latest nuclear activities would remain within the framework of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and global powers.

Iran has told the United Nations nuclear watchdog that it will increase its nuclear enrichment capacity within the limits set by the 2015 agreement with world powers.

"In a letter that would be delivered to the International Atomic Energy Agency by the Iranian mission in Vienna, it has been announced that we will begin the process of increasing the capacity for the production of UF6 and UF4 gases on Monday as well as the construction of factories for the manufacturing of centrifuge rotors", Kamalvandi explained.

Israel trolled Iran on Monday with a gif from the film "Mean Girls" after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called for their complete annihilation.

But President Trump dramatically pulled out of the agreement, leaving the remaining European signatories scrambling to save it. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the USA would re-impose its sanctions on Iran.

Under the deal, the Islamic Republic curbed its capacity to enrich uranium for nuclear fuel and in return won a lifting of most global sanctions that had hobbled its economy.

Katz noted that many global companies from France, England, Germany, Russia and other countries have already announced their intention to suspend their activity in Iran "because they don't want to be subject to the American sanctions".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets with French leaders Tuesday in Paris as he continues efforts to persuade European leaders to alter the global nuclear agreement with Iran.

Trump also objected that the 2015 deal, reached under his predecessor Barack Obama, did not address Iran's nuclear work beyond 2025 or its role in conflicts in Yemen and Syria.

White House says still pursuing China trade sanctions - Economy
The White House statement said the president had been "updated" on several steps following the March release by U.S. A United States negotiating team is in China, preparing for the next round of trade and investment talks.

European leaders have moved to salvage the deal after US President Donald Trump's announcement of Washington's exit on May 8.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas huddled with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Thursday and insisted that Berlin "wants to maintain the nuclear agreement and make sure Iran maintains it too".

"The agreement must be preserved but France never considered it to sufficient and wholly satisfactory", Macron said.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran were reignited after Trump pulled the USA out of the controversial Iran nuke deal, which he claimed would not stop the country from developing deadly warheads.

Netanyahu will meet French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday and British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday.

At a news conference later, Yukiya Amano said his statement was "not an expression of concerns or complaints, but rather an encouragement to Iran".

The Israeli leader said Tuesday that the Iranian plan to increase its nuclear enrichment capacity was aimed at producing nuclear weapons to be used against Israel.

"The supreme leader's threat to step up enrichment is an attempt to use nuclear blackmail to force Europe to save his regime from an economic and political crisis of his own making", Dubowitz said.
