World leaders including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are expected to raise the issue of tariffs with US President Donald Trump.

At the heart of the rift, US President Trump's new tarrifs on steel and aluminium imports - and the threat of a global trade war.

Even Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron - who have both previously shown a willingness to swallow their differences with Trump - have voiced their willingness to cut the United States adrift if they can not reach some kind of consensus at the summit.

Trump threatened to impose even more tariffs against those countries if they did not take down their barriers to U.S. trade. "Look forward to seeing them tomorrow", Trump wrote.

Abe, who was in Washington ahead of the USA president's historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next week, has more at stake than tariffs.

Trump has also seemed less than enthusiastic about the meetings, questioning if he even needs to attend.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday leaders needed to be civil at the summit but he is clearly losing patience with the U.S. President, suggesting the other six members of the G7 could form their own grouping if necessary.

Curry, who has a history of ankle injuries , chipped in with his own thoughts: "You should have asked me", he noted. After a first game with some hotly debated calls, the officiating was under great scrutiny on Sunday evening.

Later, Trump tweeted, "Take down your tariffs & barriers or we will more than match you!"

"I believe it can be worked out", top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters on Wednesday.

"The point is to make sure we have an open dialogue, that we are at the table with them, positive, constructive, but very firm", he said.

NAFTA is an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America, which came into force on January 1, 1994.

"One risk is that others will take advantage of this apparent vacuum in American leadership and the lack of trans-Atlantic consensus and act in ways that will harm trans-Atlantic interests, whether it's Russian Federation in the Eurasia. or China in Asia", said Ian Lesser, of the German Marshall Fund. British Prime Minister Theresa May urged the European Union to stick to World Trade Organization rules and to ensure that any response to the tariffs was proportionate.

"The U.S. tariff on steel is affecting those workers today", said Scheer, who noted Canada's steel industry employs more than 23,000 workers and indirectly supports more than 100,000 jobs.

Critics argue that the growing USA isolation is risky at a time when Trump is making diplomatic overtures with North Korea and in the Middle East and could use the support of allies.

Last year, at Trump's first G-7 meeting, he agreed to sign on to the joint statement, even embracing language that the leaders of Europe and Canada have accused the United States of now violating. Canada is waiting until the end of the month to apply them with the hope the Trump administration will reconsider.
