The league named Oliver Luck commissioner and CEO.

A formal announcement was scheduled for later Tuesday.

The XFL was searching for luck when it announced it would reboot a league that had collapsed in 2001, after just one season.

The 58-year-old was the director of athletics at West Virginia for four years before joining the NCAA in 2014.

Luck, the father of Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, had been serving in an advisory role with the NCAA in Indianapolis. "All of those combined led me to believe the key ingredients to a successful launch are there to deliver great football, which I think was one of the failings of the original league". Seeing a tremendous opportunity to fill the void, Vince McMahon, XFL Founder and Chairman announced on January 25, 2018, the launch of a new league, which he is personally funding.

The 51-year-old can not gain entry into the United Kingdom following his failed attempt to get his visa into the country renewed. Earlier, it was reported that Roman Abramovich got an Israeli citizenship and arrived in the territory of the country.

Oliver Luck says XFL players will stand for the national anthem.

The league reportedly has its new commissioner - it's a big name.

Luck appeared in a video saying that he's thrilled to have the opportunity to reimagine football, and that fans can expect a fast paced, high-energy, simpler game. "His experience as both an athlete and executive will ensure the long-term success of the XFL".

"Oliver Luck has been a key member of my leadership team and he has done a superb job at the NCAA over the last three years", NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement provided to the Associated Press.

The XFL regular season will feature 10 games, followed by two playoff games and then the championship. McMahon is building the XFL with the same commitment and resolve that he has demonstrated building WWE into a global media and sports entertainment powerhouse.
