Tiger worked his way into contention at the Memorial, despite his putter letting him down.

The 42-year old Woods has returned to the Nicklaus hosted Memorial for a first occasion since 2015 to tee-up in what will be his ninth event of 2018, and for a first occasion since sharing 11th place earlier this month in the Players Championship.

Woods' wedge shot from 97 yards out hit past the hole before spinning backward and rolling in.

"I am definitely not taking advantage of how well I'm hitting it", Woods said.

That left him five strokes behind compatriot Kyle Stanley, who was 10-under through 10 holes. "Back was tight", Woods said. Despite a 90-weather delay after he eagled the 11th, he finished feeling fine. After making the cut on the number - even par - he said Saturday was going to serve as a practice round. "They are new which is odd given I have been out here for 20-some years and you think I would understand it but this is a bit different for me". I was pacing back and forth trying keep it loose, keep myself warm.

"It's only nine holes".

"I've been driving the ball well, which I think is the key to this golf course." the American said.

"If I hit the ball like this on the weekend then I have a great chance of winning this tournament", said Woods, who has not won on the PGA Tour since 2013.

Two lions, two tigers and a jaguar escape from German zoo
Eifel Zoo has nearly 400 animals of 60 exotic and native species, including lions, tigers, and other big cats on its 30-acre site. The five big cats were found within the confines of the park and were recaptured in the afternoon.

Ariya had 10 holes left, and she picked up two birdies and one bogey to card a two-under-par 70 at Shoal Creek.

It ended up turning out OK.

That didn't last. Woods ran his 45-foot birdie putt about 7 feet by on the par-3 16th and missed it coming back, and then closed by missing a 3-foot par putt. "I'm starting to hit the golf ball better". "And I made a few tweaks in my swing, my setup and I was able to make some good swings and turned the whole thing around".

He had played the Memorial only once before, though the 24-year-old Californian has been a regular in central Ohio.

For 72 holes, Woods was -7.695 meaning he gave up more than 7 shots on the greens; had that number been 0, in theory he would have finished 7 strokes better and been leading or certainly in a position to chase down eventual playoff victor Bryson DeChambeau. And he's seen some familiar faces in the crowd, including former Ohio State golf coach Jim Brown, who followed him around the course Friday.

For Woods, the last memory of his four rounds at Muirfield Village will be sublime ballstriking, the best in the field and better than anything he has produced going back to the first of his four back surgeries.

"I didn't know what to expect", Armour acknowledged. Woods said "I played really, really well". But I'm a different player over the last year, so I just went out with a game plan of fairways, greens and it's been working kind of all year. "I've got to clean that up come this weekend and hopefully, I can get it going. So happy where I'm at". But I needed to take care of five first.

Since his closing 64 at the Masters, Spieth has finished at least 12 shots behind the victor in his three tournaments and missed the cut in his final event before heading to Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open.
