Andy Murray unsure on future plans after long-awaited comeback

Andy Murray returned to action after almost a year out with a hip injury at Queen's on Tuesday, going down in a narrow defeat to Nick Kyrgios.

It will be 342 days since Murray's last competitive match, his Wimbledon quarter-final defeat to Sam Querrey, and Kyrgios is excited to be playing him.

The Tennis Integrity Unit said Kicker can reduce his ban to three years if he "commits no further breaches".

And he pulled up well, playing a practice set with American Sam Querrey, his last opponent at Wimbledon in July of previous year.

"If he is feeling good then I don't see any reason why not", he said. "I thought my level at times was good, sometimes not so good".

"Two-all in the first set, I split-stepped and my hip kind of pinched a little bit and I was dealing with a little bit of pain for the whole match as ridiculous as that sounds because the guy was out from a hip injury (surgery)", Kyrgios said. I'm really happy that I got on the match court today. The former world number one is hoping to use the Queen's Club tournament to gain match fitness ahead of the Wimbledon Championships that gets underway in July. "While I will be nervous, it will be great to finally step back on the court".

After two aborted comebacks and eventual surgery on his troublesome hip injury, all eyes were on how Murray would fair in a competitive environment and he soon showed his mettle by saving a break point in the opening game. I have known him since I was 12 years old and I have always had a wonderful relationship with Andy. "I was, like, this is not going to be a good look if I lose this match".

Legend Geoff Hurst was the hero on that occasion, scoring a hat-trick in England's most famous triumph. We knew there was going to be more goals and we showed that confidence to go and get them.

He was clearly worn out at the end and there was even the suggestion of a limp but Murray said that was only to be expected after such a long layoff.

I think it was just him trying to take away some of the pressure from himself because it was probably the first match we had played where he was expected to win. So, his long-awaited return to Tenns will be highly anticipated. That's really one thing that stands out.

Elsewhere, another former World No 1 on the comeback trail continued his resurgence with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over John Millman. And that sense of uncertainty is heightened by the man standing on the other side of the net today - the mercurial Kyrgios.

There's never a time when you feel flawless.

"It was unusual because on big points, when I won them, I nearly felt bad if I showed any emotion".

Dimitrov defeated Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, while Raonic was leading 6-1, 3-1 when his opponent, India's Yuki Bhambri, was forced to retire hurt.
