The Phoenix Suns were awarded the No. 1 pick in next month's National Basketball Association draft via the lottery held Wednesday (Philippine time) in Chicago. The Los Angeles Lakers sent their unprotected first-round pick - 10th overall - to the Philadelphia 76ers, finally completing the Steve Nash trade from six years ago after taking the second pick each of the past three years.

The Suns had a 25.0 percent probability of winning the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, highest of any team participating in the Lottery.

Suns GM Ryan McDonough told the Republic that the Suns "don't know yet" who they will take and, before the lottery, said Doncic would not be a sure thing at No. 1 despite the connection to Kokoskov.

Sacramento had a 18.3 percent chance entering the lottery of moving into the top three, while Atlanta's move-up was really just a slightly bigger upset than a coin-flip - the Hawks came into the night with a 42.3 percent chance of getting picks 1, 2 or 3.

In the June 21 draft, the Sixers will also be selecting at their earned spots, No. 26 overall in the first round and No. 56 overall in the second round. "Those of us in the room in Chicago felt the tension, then it was an unbelievable feeling to see it revealed that we received the No. 1 selection". Kokoskov coached global prospect and consensus top three pick, Luka Doncic, overseas and could try to reunite in the desert. Kokoskov coached Slovenia - and Doncic - to the gold medal at the European championships last summer.

"I can't compare those two guys because I lived with Luka".

With the eighth pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers will plot the course of the future for the foreesablle future either with or without superstar LeBron James.

The Charlotte Hornets will go 11th, the Los Angeles Clippers will get 12th and 13th - the former coming from the Detroit Pistons - while the Denver Nuggets get 14th pick. On Tuesday night, the Cavs found out that pick would be the number eight.

Whether there will be a shared Sixers-Celtics desk again next season (there better be!), this outcome means that Boston will likely get the Sacramento Kings' 2019 first-round pick as part of the Markelle Fultz trade.
