Stephen Hawking's final theory sheds light on the multiverse

Hawking said in an interview past year, 'The usual theory of eternal inflation predicts that globally our universe is like an infinite fractal, with a mosaic of different pocket universes, separated by an inflating ocean.

'Now we're saying that there is a boundary in our past, ' said Hertog. Eternal inflation is the theory that even though the universe isn't still growing at the same rate it did at the beginning of time, growth still occurs, starting from that boundary, and will continue infinitely.

'The local laws of physics and chemistry can differ from one pocket universe to another, which together would form a multiverse.

The theory, in short, explains that the universe is a lot more simple and finite when compared to what many existing theories on the big bang say, notes a report by the University of Cambridge.

Instead, Hawking and Hertog propose a new model of the multiverse that's much smaller, based on string theory, and much more measurable.

Next, its co-author, the Belgian physicist Thomas Hertog, is the one who should be vigilant with regard to the observational proofs either in favor or in opposition to Hawking's "Final Theory". The part of the universe that we can observe is just a hospitable pocket where inflation has ended. During a period of rapid expansion (known as inflation), the cosmos swelled from subatomic to golf ball-sized nearly instantaneously-possibly creating various pocket worlds, i.e. the multiverse.

First reported in March, an updated thesis submitted 10 days before his death provides evidence for the presence of a "multiverse" less complicated than we thought.

They evoked with a new idea of eternal inflation that relies on a boundary at the beginning of time.

Coupe owned 1.14 million shares in Sainsbury's as of May 2017, according to the company's most recent annual report. Based on past experiences here, I have my doubts about this price promise.

The latest work challenges the view that our universe "is like an infinite fractal, with a mosaic of different pocket universes separated by an inflating ocean".

Some, according to the theory, would be very like our own universe, while others would be subtly different.

This new multiverse theory is just another on a pile of explanations for how reality may function, but it's looking as if it could be a viable one.

This resolved a difficulty with Einsteins theory that suggested that the universe began almost 14 billion years ago but said nothing about how it began.

Hawkings final paper has solved the puzzle by drawing on new mathematical techniques developed to study another branch of physics called string theory. "As a effect, Einstein's theory breaks down in eternal inflation".

"Stephen himself said that this work was the area he was most proud of", Malcolm Perry, a colleague of Hawking's, tells the Guardian. This gives future scientists and physicists a more structured set of information to identify other universes.

The European Space Agency has a project underway to build gravitational wave detectors in space that should be sensitive enough to find the faint signals Hertog talks about.
