Kelly Sadler was discussing McCain's opposition to President Donald Trump's nominee for Central Intelligence Agency director Gina Haspel. During an appearance on Fox News, Mulvaney called Sadler's comment a "bad joke" but said it was "inconsiderate" that it leaked. She confirmed that Sadler still works at the White House.

But she's refusing to otherwise weigh in on or condemn the comments.

"People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration", former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said in a statement.

"There is not a tone set here", Sanders said.

Biden is not the only prominent figure to defend McCain following Sadler's comments.
