Lou Lamoriello will not continue as Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager; Shanahan looks for replacement

According to reports, Par Lindholm, a 26-year old centre who played last season with Skelleftea AIK in the SHL, has chosen to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs after garnering interesting from at least 20 of the 31 National Hockey League teams.

Per a statement released by the team on Monday, Leafs President Brendan Shanahan stated, "Three years ago, Lou and I agreed on a contract that would see him serve as General Manager of the Maple Leafs for three years and then transition to Senior Advisor for the following four years".

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lou for his tireless work over the last three years as general manager", Shanahan said.

The 75-year-old held a conference call Monday addressing the news he won't return as the team's general manager next year.

Lamoriello helped guide the Maple Leafs back to the post-season over the last two years, although Toronto couldn't get out of the first round either time.

"Seeing how the franchise has grown as far as winning", Lamoriello said of his biggest point of pride.

Lamoriello's contract expired at the end of this season.

Largest mass child sacrifice event may be tied to El Nino
It is thought the children were sacrificed as floods caused by the El Nino weather pattern ravaged the Peruvian coastline. Based on the layers of mud at the site, archeologists believe the sacrificial ritual was a single event.

Under Lamoriello's guidance, the Maple Leafs went 118-95-33 over the last three seasons.

The Leafs made no announcement about who will handle the team's day-to-day business in the interim.

The Hockey Hall of Famer also served as GM of the American team that won the World Cup of Hockey in 1996.

Lamoriello's son, Chris, has been the Islanders' assistant GM since August 2016. Reports said the Leafs had spoken to Futa in the past about their GM position, and he was also named in the Sabres' search. "My relationship and respect I have for him has only grown over time".

With Frederik Gauthier and Miro Aaltonen already AHL veterans, Lindholm is in tough to make the Maple Leafs roster but could be a nice fit with the Toronto Marlies for the beginning of next season.

Lamoriello relinquished his role as Devils GM as Ray Shero was hired to replace him on May 4, 2015, but remained the team president, saying at that time he had been considering stepping aside for a while.

Tim Horton's That's Hockey Host Gino Reda talked to Scott MacArthur about the Leafs decision not to bring back Lou Lamoriello as Leafs GM next season.
