According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Milwaukee has reached an agreement to hire former Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer.

For general manager Jon Horst, Budenholzer was long his top target and a finalized contract is expected to be completed soon, league sources said.

Atlanta made the playoffs in four of his first five seasons as head coach.

Budenholzer led the Hawks to a 24-58 record in the 2017-2018 season, bringing his career winning percentage to 52.0%. Kidd had been surrounded in scrutiny started with the moment he took over as coach of the Bucks. Critics questioned his on the court tactics and his ability to manage the team. But Borrego served as the Magic's interim coach in the 2014-15 season, when he went 10-20 with Orlando after Jacque Vaughn was sacked midseason.

Alongside Antetokounmpo, the Bucks have players like Eric Bledsoe, Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon, and Thon Maker.

With Budenholzer all but official, there's reason for Bucks fans to not only breathe a sigh of relief, but also get excited about the future. He comes from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree, which is a good sign for the Bucks.

After the Hawks' season ended in April, Budenholzer was allowed to interview with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks, even though he still had two years left on his contract.

Budenholzer inherits a Milwaukee team that is loaded with talent, but has little to show in terms of postseason success in recent years.

Budenholzer began his National Basketball Association coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant under Gregg Popovich.

Budenholzer was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2014-15, but agreed to part ways with the Hawks after the season.
