Google I/O Update: Google Maps 'For You' Section, Augmented Reality Features Announced

With this, Google Maps will recommend a spot for you to check out, with an associated match percentage with it. Let's say you love hot dogs.

To help provide for these changing needs, the Google Maps team have worked to integrate Google Maps with the smartphone camera.

The idea, according to Google Maps Senior Product Manager Sophia Lin, is that "in addition to helping you get where you need to go, we'll help you discover new places to eat and things to do around you".

Ryan Reynolds Responds To Teen Titans Go! To The Movies' Deadpool Joke
His " Deadpool 2 " co-star Josh Brolin , who also danced on the show, admits the TV appearance was a career highlight for him. Fun and quite irreverent, Ranveer and Ryan's Deadpool banter is nothing short of fabulous and adds tons of appeal to the film.

The Maps app is adding a new "For You" tab along the bottom, which will contain news about newly-opened locations near you, a "trending" locations section, and offers and updates from your favorite businesses. The Google Maps team have even been experimenting with an animated guide character that you can follow, such as the animated fox shown briefly in the demo.

The new "For you" tab is the best way to stay on top of the latest and greatest happening in the areas you're into. This will be based on factors including places you have visited before, preferences you have shared with Maps, information about the business, and previous personal user ratings. "You can rate places on Google Maps, which helps us determine which restaurants you like so we can improve your match for similar places moving forward". Google has thought of this and has added in Group Planning tools. Instead you'll get curated lists of what's good based on the area or neighborhood you're looking up.

In a demo at Google's I/O developer conference today (May 8), Google executives show how a phone's camera can use AR features to augment directions. This way it would be harder to misinterpret the directions the app is giving users because every turn they make will be guided by AR navigation signs and symbols. Part of this is simply to avoid your wasting time scrolling through endless four-star listings on other platforms while you look for someplace to go.
