President Donald Trump sparked an uproar across the Atlantic after he suggested that London's knife problem is worse than gun violence in America and that France's strict gun laws got in the way of a faster end to the Paris terror attacks of 2015.

The French government officially condemned remarks made by President Trump to the National Rifle Association convention on Friday in which he suggested the November 2015 Paris terrorist attacks could have been stopped or mitigated by "one employee or just one patron" with a gun.

Calling France's gun laws "the toughest in the world", he described how terrorists had "brutally" shot and killed 130 people at Parisian nightlife spots in the November 2015 attacks. "You notice nobody ever talks about them", he had said.

"They took their time and gunned them down one by one", he added, before mimicking the shooters while saying: "Boom".

As well as the response from Brohi outlining the problems with attempting to solve knife crime with guns, his colleague Dr Martin Griffiths, who said in an interview with BBC Radio 4 that some of his colleagues had compared treating stabbing victims to working in Camp Bastion in Afghanistan extended an invitation to Trump to visit The Royal London. Boom! Come over here ...

"Yes that's right, they don't have guns, they have knives".

Former French president François Hollande called Mr Trump's remarks "shameful" and Manuel Valls, who was prime minister during the attacks, tweeted: 'Indecent and incompetent.

Trump's comment on the Paris attacks did not go down well with the French.

Regardless of the validity of the President's statements, the French Foreign Ministry considered Trump's theatrics disrespectful. However, multiple analyses have since debunked that claim, noting that NY saw 292 murders previous year, while London reported 130. "They have knives and instead, there is blood all over the floors of this hospital", he said.

In March, hundreds of thousands of people rallied the streets of the United States capital for the "March for Our Lives", calling for stricter gun control in the country.

Trump told the NRA convention in Dallas on Friday that a "once very prestigious" London hospital was "like a war zone for frightful stabbing wounds".

The director of the capital's major trauma system, Royal London surgeon Professor Karim Brohi, said: "Knife violence is a serious issue for London. Gunshot wounds are at least twice as lethal as knife injuries and more hard to fix".

"The statistics on gun crime victims do not make us want to change this choice", it said.
