Car dangling from Toronto overpass part of movie shoot: police

They say they don't know why the vehicle is there, but note that there's no danger to public safety, because the auto is not hanging over the nearby Don Valley Parkway.

The unusual sight of a blue sedan suspended from the underside of the Leaside Bridge drove much speculation online and from police themselves, who originally believed the hanging vehicle was part of a movie shoot. Fire services managed to safely bring the vehicle to the ground Wednesday afternoon.

City of Toronto spokesperson Wynna Brown also confirmed that the city did not issue a permit in relation to the stunt. A southbound lane of the Don Valley Parkway was blocked at Millwood Road.

Const. Caroline de Kloet told CBC that it's now just a "waiting game" while police look for more information.

"I haven't seen anything like this in 30 years", Ratushniak said.

Mayor John Tory was equally perplexed when he saw the vehicle just dangling in the breeze. "I think precautions have been taken so that no people are adversely affected by that". The students later claimed responsibility for the stunt, saying they wanted to "draw attention to the masterful feat of professional engineers and to celebrate the skills of the tradespeople who built the bridges".

But when they were unable to locate a filming permit, they opened an investigation into "public mischief". "You're always very puzzled as to how a auto would have got into that particular situation".

Police said emergency crews briefly attended the scene and did not deem the situation to be hazardous.

"So the danger is very high".
