ABC has cancelled Roseanne after comedian's racist tweet

The hosts of ABC's The View trashed Roseanne Barr after their network cancelled her show following her racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett.

"Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the terrible statements made and said about me on ABC", Trump wrote. It's unclear what "statements" Trump is referencing in the tweet, but it likely relates to ABC News' coverage of his presidency. Barr added, "It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting - it was memorial day too - I went 2 far & do not want it defended".

Robert Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, backed up Dungey's decision to cancel the top-rated show, saying "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing". "That's on you. You did this to yourself", she added in comments directed at Barr.

Barr was resoundingly condemned Tuesday, including from many who helped make her show successful. It was aimed at former President Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, a black woman who was born in Iran to American parents.

A White House official quoted by Reuters news agency described the comments about Mr Pence as the "last straw". A White House team was set to fly to Singapore this weekend to continue logistical planning for the meeting.

Actors Michael Fishman and Sara Gilbert both took to Twitter to condemn their co-star's remarks. "I am disappointed in her actions to say the least", wrote Gilbert, who played Darlene Conner. I'm shocked. A lot of times people say disgusting things all over Twitter and all over TV and nothing is ever done. In response, Barr wrote that she "created the platform for inclusivity", and was surprised Fishman would "throw [her] under the bus".

The tweet was later deleted, but a screenshot of the post was widely shared, and a firestorm erupted. Sykes had responded to Barrs invective by announcing via Twitter that she wouldnt return to the show. "She just crossed the line again".

The 2018 reboot of the popular sitcom had been attracting high ratings-even while some jokes drew controversy and as Barr kept up her well-established record of promoting baseless, right-wing conspiracy theories.

Barr showed no signs of abandoning Twitter, engaging in a series of tweets that apologized to those who lost their jobs because of the "Roseanne" cancellation and expressed remorse she was being branded a racist.
